Kids Care Horse Camp
July 11-15, 2011
Kids Care is a unique camp experience for Children ages 6-12. This is not your ordinary horse camp! The camp is run by North Wind Stables, a nationally recognized show stable, in conjunction with Saddlebred Rescue an award winning 501c organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing horses in danger of going to slaughter and other perilous situations.
In addition to daily riding lessons, on dependable well trained North Wind lesson horses, the campers will learn the basics of horse care and will be exposed to the concept of giving back to those in need. They will have an opportunity to work at age appropriate tasks with rescued horses under the supervision of our knowledgeable staff. Of course it will not be all work and no play. The schedule allows plenty of time for fun with buggy rides, craft projects and games.
Kids Care is run as a day camp, Monday through Friday. Hours are 9:00 am – 3:00pm. Tuition is $300 per week long session. Campers are to bring a bag lunch. Extended hours are available at an additional cost by prior arrangement.
Campers may enroll in our overnight program which includes all day time activities and lessons as well as planned evening activities and meals. The cost for overnight camp is $600 per week long session.
The week will wrap up with a recital and parents reception on Friday evening. Enrollment is limited to ensure a high quality experience for all campers.
Teens Care Horse Camp
August 8-12, 2011
This week long camp is similar to the Kids Care camp in focus but is geared toward ages 13-17. Campers will have daily riding lessons and receive instruction in all aspects of horse care. Each camper will be assigned a newly arrived rescue horse as their project for the week. They will be responsible for tracking that horse’s care, administrating any special treatments, observing and documenting the horse’s initial evaluation and assisting our staff in our efforts to find it a permanent approved home.
This camp will be an excellent opportunity for any young person considering a career in animal rescue, veterinary science, or any segment of the horse industry. It will be a valuable experience for any horse lover regardless of future plans.
This is an intense program but there is time for fun and relaxation built in. Teens care is run as a day camp. Tuition for the week long session is $300. Campers are to bring a bag lunch. Extended hours are available at an additional cost by prior arrangement.
