Life Lesson #20 Is there anything better than, horses, barking dogs and good friends?

Sometimes when I am writing this I wonder who is reading my words?  Do they think I am stupid for doing this?  Are they bored listening to my problems?  Yesterday was a low day, but today started out a good day with support from those of you who get my humor, and my passion for the horses. I can not tell you what it means to KNOW there are people out there who believe in me and work hard to brighten my days. I am not the type of person who hangs out a lot with other people, but I do like to hang with my Internet friends. Does that make me sound weird? I am a people person and I do like working with people who love horses.  Anyway, today was a brighter day as far as my mood went and I must say it was a fun day.  Anne baked a very good cake for Doug’s third year at SBR and NWS, and being the horse lover she is there is only one kind of cake to bake…carrot of course!  We had a mini surprise party for Doug scarfed down the cake and then got back to the horses.

I did show Dr. M the 6o mile horse and I thought she was going to actually hunt the people down that did not seem to notice that he was starving. It is a shocking picture of this horse looking as if life has kicked him to the curb with the garbage. I had Erin (one of the kids in the barn) go out and bring him in just to be loved on and cleaned up. The kids did get him to eat treats and at least he was looking for the treats with a smile on his face.

Everyone who wrote to me had a hand in making today a wonderful day.  As I sit here typing away in my happy mood, the dogs are sure that they need to bark every minute or so, forcing me to yell “shut up” . After a few thousand “shut ups” I am starting to lose that glow I had all day.  We have Suzie, who I may have told you has two jobs in life and one of those is to bark at Jason.  Jason has the nerve to walk around the house and just be around, and to Suzie it is important to tell him she is watching him.  Then I have Pepper, some nights he shifts into the PEPPER SPRAY mode, this means he is ON GUARD!!  Pepper is quick to use his pirate RRRRRRR as he growls to warn anyone who is even thinking about coming into the room with him and me.  June the Boxer thinks her job is to run out the dog door and bark at THINGS outside every 15 minutes.  Every time June comes back in the door, Rowdy barks at her, and NOT with his inside voice, telling her that he is in charge of the door.  Add to this Wiley (the world’s largest Pomeranian) who just has what I call a “bark button” on the bottoms of his feet, so every time he trots through the house, his mouth is barking almost with every step he takes. Wiley also likes to lay real quiet and wait until all the dogs are asleep.  Then he jumps up and barks wildly, this causes ALL of the dogs to jump up barking frantically and run out the door to chase off whatever it was that Wiley saw.  In the mean time, I swear Wiley smiles a sly little smile, happy his plan worked and all of the stupid dogs went outside.  So after you know the background, you can imagine what it is like yelling ALL night …..Suzie SHUT UP…..Pepper stop…….June get in here and stop barking…. Rowdy use your inside voice…… Wiley shut up, Shut Up, SHUT UP, Wiley S H U T    U P !!!!!!!! Is it any wonder I have trouble keeping my cool?

Maybe all the peace and quiet in the barn is what makes me love the horses sooo much!  When I am around the horses you can hear them munching contentedly on their hay, I can go to a place where the smell of the horses and their sounds are kind of like the commercial…”Calgon Take Me Away.”   When I am in that “away place” I can let my mind wander and it always brings me back to a couple of thoughts.  The first is how lucky I am to be able to work with horses everyday!  The second is how lucky I am to have such GOOD FRIENDS!!!
